No Food in the House, Yeah Right

I need to at least go to Acme today but might try to make it to both Acme and Aldi.  We are running low on food and when it gets like this Mr. Ripples is horrible at using it as an excuse to eat out A LOT and he gets grumpy about it.

3 times this week he has complained about the lack of food in the house.  Now if you could see our cupboards and freezer you would see how ridiculous this is.  Earlier in the week he thawed some frozen spaghetti sauce and cooked it with elbow macaroni.  He doesn't like elbow macaroni with spaghetti sauce for some reason (its a texture thing). When I told him I was surprised that's what he made, he said it was because we had no food so he had to cook that.  Ummmm.  Really!?  We have 4 boxes of pasta in the cupboard, 3 of which are NOT elbow macaroni.  Apparently looking past the first box was too much work.

On Thursday, I told him I could make Island Kielbasa when I got home from work or he could throw some chicken breasts in the oven.  When I got home, he was like "What are you gonna make with the chicken, we don't have anything."  Again, I opened the cupboards.  We had baked beans, instant mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, rice, red potatoes and frozen broccoli.  I think that's plenty of choices.

And finally, this morning.  Mr. Ripples was in a grumpy mood.  He woke up early because he couldn't sleep.  He was hungry so he went to burger king to get breakfast.  *Sigh.*  In the refrigerator, we have leftover French toast that I just made at 2 am this morning as an early morning after dancing snack.  I had no problem making myself an egg and cheese sandwich on toast just a couple minutes ago.  Not to mention we have plenty more eggs, cheese, and potatoes that could have been cooked up for hash browns.  Cereal, pop tarts, oatmeal, bananas, grapes, and strawberries are all things he could have easily eaten if he hadn't wanted to cook.

Now I'm complaining about my husband on his birthday.  I'm a horrible wife sometimes.  If he wanted Burger King on his birthday, I don't care.  That's fine.  Just don't use the excuse that we don't have any food in the house.

It's just so frustrating when I'm trying to really watch the grocery budget, using everything up so we aren't throwing money in the trash with wasted food.  And part of the reason I work so hard to save money is to pay for fun stuff like birthday parties and the hotel stays so we can go to out of town concerts.

  1. The unfortunate part at our house is that my husband will stop and get groceries if he deems that we need them. He buys cheese, frozen food, chips and other random food that don't usually make a meal.
