Little Ripples Toothache

I took Little Ripples to the children's dentist yesterday.  She had to have a tooth removed and a filling.  She did great when they cleaned her teeth and didn't cry once.  They wanted us to schedule a date later in the week to come back to see the specialist to have the actual work done.  But she was so miserable I called the dentist back and they agreed to try to work her in today.  My husband took her to the appointment today and he said he had to hold her arms down and she just kept crying "But I want to give you a hug."

That's usually her answer if we tell her to do something she doesn't want to do.  She'll say, "But I want to give you a hug" to try to distract us.  She's a smart little 3 year old.

I'm glad Mr. Ripples took her, I don't know if I could have handled it without crying.  It makes me feel horrible.  At only 3, I don't know how well she could understand what was going on and why.  She must have been scared.

I quit buying juice a few months back when Big Ripples had to have a tooth pulled.  I need to get family members and my husband on board.  I catch them giving juice, pop or chocolate milk.  Not too mention way to much candy and junk.  Like really?!  Don't offer it and usually the girls will be perfectly happy with white milk.  And my children do not need to have more than one dessert in an evening which happens a lot when my parents are around.  Since we only live 5 minutes from my parents, they're around a lot.  I've had a talk with them before about this, looks like its time for another one.

I don't want our children to keep having dental problems.  Its super expensive and just not any fun.

  1. This makes me tear up. Poor little girl. My daughter had three cavities and we were told to stay away from sippies with anything other than water. My mother-in-law has even poured pop into her sippie. Yikes!

    1. My parents and my husband are totally guilty of the pop in the Sippy cup. It used to really annoy me and then I got to where I was sick of getting all worked up over it so I just gave in and looked the other way. But no more. Not if this is what it leads to.

  2. Aww, poor little child. It's definitely not fun to have to hold a child while they're in pain for a good reason (like with shots... they hate that a lot). I hope she feels better soon and doesn't have to visit the dentist for a long time!

  3. Oh, I remember those feelings with a little one!

For sweets and foods I didn't want my kids to have from other family members: I just said no! No, he or she can't have that right now. Once I said it once or twice, they got the hint. Everyone in our family knew soda/caffeine was totally off limits and if it was candy or something else I didn't want them to have, I'd just say "she already had a sweet today, so no more today". My DD was so cute she was little and we were at other peoples houses and they'd offer her a drink. She'd say "does it have 'caf-en-ene in it?"

    1. Awww. I wish my family would listen to me. Unfortunately I can't even get my husband on the same page let alone the rest of my family. I don't know how many times I walk in the door after work and the girls are eating candy...right before dinner.
